A Texas anti-masker who organized “Freedom” rallies for people against wearing masks is in a hospital struggling severely with COVID-19.
For almost a month, 30-year-old Caleb Wallace has been in the hospital, reportedly fighting for his life after contracting COVID-19. But, for a long time, Wallace was against the protective measure put in place to curve the spread of Rona.
In July, Wallace helped put together “The Freedom Rally,” an event slated to join people in protest against the “government being in control of our lives.” On top of that, he also founded “The San Angelo Freedom Defenders,” a group that hosted a rally in 2020 to “end the COVID tyranny.
Today, he’s in the hospital after catching Rona. His wife, Jessica Wallace, wrote on Facebook that she had a “heartbreaking update” about Wallace.
“He’s not doing good. It’s not looking in our favor,” Jessica wrote Wednesday. “His lungs are stiff due to the fibrosis. They called and said they’ve run out of options for him and asked if I would consent to a do not resuscitate. And it would be up to us when to stop treatments.”
She added that she “can’t imagine” living without him and that her views on the virus aren’t as conservative as her husband’s.
“Caleb would tell me, ‘You know masks aren’t going to save you,’ but he understood I wanted to wear them,” she said. “It gives me comfort to know that maybe, just maybe, I’m either protecting someone or avoiding it myself,” she said.
Right now, about 47 percent of Texas’s population has been fully vaccinated, Yahoo! News reports.
