Texas College Football Player Kills Transgender Girlfriend

Carlton Ray Champion has been arrested for allegedly murdering 24 year old Ty Underwood, a transgender woman in which he was dating. 

Underwood’s body was found in a wrecked car on January 26th. Witnesses say the car hit a telephone pole, before gun shots were heard.  Her body sustained several gunshot wounds. Champion initially said that he had not spoken to Underwood (whom he had been dating for a few weeks) since the night before. KIK messages showed that Champion wasn’t exactly telling the truth. 

KIK messages between Champion and Underwood from the night of the murder indicate the couple were to meet after midnight but Underwood later backed out, which led to an argument that ended with Underwood telling Champion that she did not want to continue the relationship.  Champion allegedly responded: “That’s how it is now, I will make it up.” Conversation continued and Underwood finally agreed to meet. So far there is little indication as to whether or not Carlton Champion knew that Ty Underwood was transgender. According to Champion’s father,= Carlton was meeting Underwood and thought she] was female. Carlton was supposed to get some type of sexual favor from her but then realized Underwood was a male. Then again, would Carlton tell his father he was gay?

Champion confirmed to investigators that he had been communicating with Ty (who also went by Tyra) on KIK. Authorities were able to recover messages as far back as January 19th. “After reading the text between Champion, Jr. and Underwood, it was clear that the two have had sexual relations with each other,” one detective wrote.

Police say they have a mountain of evidence tying Champion to the crime, including blood on his clothing, the cell messages and surveillance footage of Champion leaving his dorm the night of the murder.

I’m kind of torn with this one. On one hand, I could understand him being upset, especially if they had sex before..and Ty was obviously trying to end it to avoid matters getting worse. But I have to ask, why did Carlton bring a gun? Sounds to me like he planned on using the gun and instead of just admitting he’s gay, told his dad he was tricked. I guess we’ll see how this pans out.
