Officer #JoseNunez was arrested on Sunday while he was off duty for the sexual assault of a 4-year-old girl.
Shockingly, this isn’t his first assault. He is facing a felony charge of “super aggravated assault of child” which equates to a minimum of 25 years in prison.
Bexar County Sheriff #JavierSalazar commented at a news conference saying: “The details of the case are, quite frankly, heartbreaking, disturbing, disgusting and infuriating all at the same time.”
He also expressed that he touched the girl inappropriately on several other occasions. He caused her physical pain with some indications of minor injuries.
The 4-year-old is related to Nunez. The assaults took place at her house. Nunez was blackmailing the girl’s mother, knowing that she was undocumented
and threatened to have her deported if she told, to provoke fear in both the young girl and her mother. It initially caused hesitancy in the mother to report Nunez but her mom put all that aside when her daughter outcried to her. She immediately took her to the local fire station and soon after, Nunez was arrested.
The fact that the undocumented mother felt uncomfortable to report the incident to authoritative figures is part of ongoing concerns regarding undocumented immigrants. They fear deportation over safety. Authorities are filling out paperwork to ensure the mother is given protection while waiting on the outcome of the case.
“The little girl is now safe and we’re continuing to process the case. My objective is to separate this person from the agency as soon as possible.” Salazar commented.
