In May, a 27-year old father drove from Dallas to Houston to meet up with a woman he met in an online chatroom. Instead, he had been catfished and was robbed and killed.
According to Crime Stoppers, Deonte Hicks was shot around 4:20 a.m. outside of his vehicle by two unknown black males. The suspects fled on foot. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
He leaves behind a 4-year-old daughter. His family describes him as a “very, very loving father.”
No arrests have been made in Hicks’ case.
Hicks’ family does not believe the police are doing enough to solve the murder. On Friday, his family traveled to Houston to pass out fliers.
“It has not been a top priority. My family and I, we’ve gone to Houston headquarters to talk to detectives,” Hicks aunt, Tamara Peterson, told ABC13. “I’ve called a million times. Nothing has been done. I’ve been passed off to the next person. I’ve been given the runaround. Nothing done.”
Community activist Quanell X joined Hicks’ family in Houston, saying, “The word is out on Houston. You can come here and commit crimes and get away with it.” He’s hoping authorities will solve the case.
Crime Stoppers is offering to pay up to $5,000 for any tip that leads to the identification, charging, and arrest of the suspects in this case.
