Texas police are investigating the shooting death of a 26-year-old woman pregnant with twins.
Darionne Burley was found shot in the head and slumped over in a Honda Civic with a sonogram picture from June 15 in her wallet. The sonogram shows Twin A and Twin B and lists Burley as the mother.
According to the Star-Telegram of Fort Worth, the suspect is the victim’s boyfriend, Maurice, Smith, 28, and he is in custody.
According to an arrest affidavit, Smith told police that the couple had argued about replacing a slowly leaking tire, and Burley “made him feel like less of a man” and admitted to smoking the synthetic marijuana K2. The two drove home, and then she left to go run errands.
Police allege that Smith shot Burley and then walked across the parking lot, where he’s accused of carjacking a woman and taking her purse. The woman’s stolen Jeep was found outside Smith’s apartment.
Inside the Honda Civic, police found shell casings, a backpack with Smith’s belongings, and a ticket for a Fort Worth gun show.
According to KTVT, Smith was arrested for aggravated robbery for the carjacking, and capital murder charges were added on Wednesday.
