Customers at Jade Massage Therapy in Austin, Texas were definitely walking away with happy endings.
An investigation into the massage parlor began when the building’s property manager discovered that the strip mall’s industrial waste unit was clogged up. The cause? Hundreds of condoms being flushed down the toilets at the location. The property manager then called the police to express concern that prostitution was happening at the business.
According to San Antonio Express, this wasn’t the first tip either. Police were notified within the last three months that the business frequently placed ads on Backpage.com, sometimes multiple times a day. In the following weeks after the first tip, police staked out the establishment’s second location and pulled over a couple of suspected john’s who had gone into the massage parlor. They allegedly admitted to paying for sexual services inside.
After a subsequent investigation, owners Juan Wang and her husband Joseph Emery, were both arrested and are facing charges of engaging in organized criminal activity. A further probe found that Wang was previously stopped at Austin Bergstrom International Airport after a TSA agent found $30,000 in taped bundles in her luggage. She was allowed to pass through with the money by claiming it was profits from her massage business, and that she was bringing it to China to pay for a medical procedure.
Business records from Jade Massage LLC don’t show any payments to the “employees,” but customers frequently tipped up to $120 on a bill of $60.
