Texas Millennial Dies Attending ‘COVID Party,’ “ I Thought It Was A Hoax”

A patient in their 30s passed away in Texas  after contracting coronavirus at a “COVID party.”

“This is a party held by someone diagnosed by the COVID virus, and the thought is to see if the virus is real and to see if anyone gets infected,” Chief Medical Officer of Methodist Healthcare Dr. Jane Appleby said to News4 San Antonio,

“I thought it was a hoax, but it’s not,” the patient told a nurse right before passing away.

Appleby wanted to share the case with the public in the hopes that people, especially those in the younger demographic, will realize they are not invincible as cases continue to rise.

“I don’t want to be an alarmist, and we’re just trying to share some real-world examples to help our community realize that this virus is very serious and can spread easily,” Appleby said.

According to Appleby, the positivity rate has spiked to 22 percent in the area. As of Thursday, San Antonio was reporting almost 18,000 cases and more than 1,200 patients were hospitalized with the virus.
