A Texas police officer is under fire after a video showing the officer slamming a student into a cart and shoving him to the floor in the school’s cafeteria has gone viral.
The Irving Police Department said in a press release that the officer involved had been reassigned while the department investigates his use of force.
Police were called to Nimitz High School around 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday after a fight broke out on the lunch line. It’s not clear what caused the fight to break out.
Video footage shows several students fighting and officers attempting to break it up. An officer grabs one of the students and slams him against a lunch cart before shoving him to the ground.
“Irving officers used force to separate the parties involved in the fight,” the department said in a statement.
