A Texas woman alleged to have beat her stepdaughter to death has been taken into police custody. Jessica Bundren originally told police the girl had fallen down the stairs and was found unresponsive in her bed.
On Tuesday night Bryan police received a 911 call from Bundren’s home. The girl’s lifeless body was found on the floor of her bedroom under a sheet. Authorities made notes of bruises on the child’s face and legs. She also had welts and puncture marks on her torso. According to authorities, the child bruises were in various stages of healing.
Authorities also recovered a belt with metal rivets that seemed to match the girl’s injuries and contradict Bundren’s original story. When asked a second-time Bundren admitted to beating her stepdaughter with the belt and forced her sleep on the floor after she wet the bed. The 40-year-old woman claims that the girl was still breathing and to have no knowledge of why she stopped.
Jessica Bundren is currently being held in custody at Brazos County Jail on a $150,000 bond.
