A Missouri City, Texas, is accused of using her daughter as a human shield against police officers after engaging in a high-speed chase.
Tenescha Henry, 35, is now facing charges of child endangerment, evading arrest, and fraud. She was booked into the Harris County jail and is being held on a $20,000 bond.
On July 20, Precinct 8 Deputy A. Peters responded to assist Webster police in pursuit of a theft suspect wanted by Bellaire police, according to ABC13. Peters became the lead unit chasing Henry, who led officers on a 25-mile chase with speeds exceeding 100 mph.
Henry ran out of gas in the parking lot of a strip mall and exited the vehicle. She walked around to the passenger side and forcibly removed a female passenger from the car. Police, believing it to be a hostage situation, were unaware that it was Henry’s own daughter she had in a chokehold.
“At that point, I 100% believed that we had a hostage situation,” Peters told the outlet.
She said the girl was crying and repeatedly asked her mother to stop. And shockingly, Henry encouraged law enforcement to shoot her.
“I distinctly remember her at times saying, ‘Shoot. Shoot me, shoot us,'” Peters described. “Things of that nature.”
Police discovered a third person in the vehicle’s backseat, who was taken into custody without incident. Officers were eventually able to tase Henry and place her under arrest. They recovered numerous debit cards, credit cards, social security cards, and more from the vehicle.
“Further investigation revealed the identifying items were taken without consent and Henry had attempted to use the credit/debit cards,” according to police.
Henry’s daughter was released into the custody of a grandparent. She is due back in court on September 27.
