A Texas woman lost her life after being gunned down by her boyfriend after he learned she traveled out of state to have an abortion.
Sadly, women are continuing to be stripped of their right to choose, even in their own households. That is exactly the case of 26-year-old Gabriella Gonzales. On the morning of Wednesday, May 10th, police responded to a call about a shooting outside of a Church’s Chicken restaurant on S. Walton Walker Boulevard. When authorities arrived around 7:40 a.m., they located Gonzales with multiple gunshot wounds. Sadly, she had already succumbed to her injuries. Police soon located surveillance video that showed Gonzales walking with 22-year-old Harold Thompson. He is seen trying to put the woman in a chokehold. Gonzales eventually broke free and continued walking. That is when Thompson retrieved a gun and shot her in the head. Once she fell to the ground, he shot her multiple times. Several witnesses were nearby, with one seeing Thompson try to choke Gonzales. Her sister was also present and heard the shots ring out.
During their investigation, police learned that Gonzales had traveled to Colorado to get an abortion. She’d returned the night before she was killed. After coming back, police say she and Thompson argued because he didn’t want her to have the procedure done. Thompson had a history of abuse during his relationship with Gonzales. An affidavit from March did not identify her by name but detailed him beating her multiple times. The victim, in that case, was confirmed to be pregnant.
Thompson is being held in the Dallas County Jail without bond.
