Earlier this week, Hurricane Laura made landfall as one of the most powerful storms to hit the United States.
The hurricane barreled through Louisiana and Texas with maximum sustained winds of 50 miles an hour, claiming the lives of six people in Louisiana. While, Texas residents were spared.
Unfortunately, tragedy still struck in the Lone Star State, as residents attempted to evacuate to escape the deadly storm.
According to the Austin American Statesman, a homeless woman was caught in the crossfire of a gunfight between evacuees.
Police responded to the incident around 12:30 am Thursday, after reports of a brawl involving 60 evacuees. One group was from Port Arthur, while the other was from Beaumont.
The woman was struck by a stray bullet after the groups pulled out guns, and one pulled the trigger amid the melee. She was pronounced dead at 1 am.
No arrests have been made in the incident, but it is under investigation as officials try to find footage of the shooting.
