Teyana Taylor took to Instagram Live Wednesday to address the ongoing chatter surrounding her 2024 divorce from former NBA player Iman Shumpert.
Taylor directly addressed claims that she’s trying to have her ex-husband jailed for contempt. This comes after portions of their 2024 divorce settlement leaked online last week, which Taylor believes Shumpert is responsible for.
While legal filings do show she took action, Taylor insisted her intention was never to have her ex locked up.
“I never tried to send Iman to jail. I’m still not trying to send Iman to jail,” she stated. “However, I have to file a motion to get him to leave me alone so we can both go and live our life in peace.”
Taylor expressed frustration over what she sees as a pattern of Shumpert trying to disrupt her success. She claimed that every time she makes headlines for a professional achievement, negative stories about their divorce follow.
“I post my little picture at the Oscars, and it does 1.4 million views. Then, the next day, all of a sudden, here come these fake divorce settlements,” she said. “That’s the part y’all don’t see. Every time I have something going on, there’s another story about this sealed divorce.”
Taylor also shut down speculation that she was after Shumpert’s money, emphasizing that she purchased everything she walked away with in their divorce.
“Let’s get this gold-digger s*** out the way,” she said. “Every single car that I walked away with, I literally paid for out of my pocket. I bought my tour bus with my hard-earned money. I bought my Maybach after Iman crashed my Rolls Royce and never replaced it. Let’s be very clear, I left with what I came with.”
She made it clear that she is not interested in continuing any back and forth with Shumpert and just wants to move forward with her life.
“I don’t want no parts of this. Iman is my family. He is the father of my children, and that’s never going to change,” she said. “I just want to move on with my life in peace.”
Taylor also pushed back against the idea that her relationship with Shumpert was perfect, saying people only saw the highlights.
“People love the idea of what we looked like together. It looked like a fairy tale, but I lived it,” she said. “I carried a lot of weight in my marriage, and I was tired.”
She also made it clear that she has no interest in rekindling their romance.
“People keep saying, ‘Oh, I want them to get back together.’ No. That’s not happening,” she said. “I love him, I respect him, but I am moving on.”
Taylor ended the livestream by saying to let her get her back blown out “in peace,” which clearly means she’s moved on to a new boo.
