’That 70’s Show’ Actor Danny Masterson, who played Hyde on the hit show, has been charged with three counts of rape.
Wednesday morning, Masterson was arrested and released on $3.3 million bail, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department website.
The actor is being charged with raping three women between 2001 and 2003 in separate incidents, according to CNN.
The District Attorney’s office stated that they failed to file sexual assault charges against the actor in two other cases, “one for insufficient evidence and the other based upon the statute of limitations for the crime alleged.”
Masterson’s Attorney, however, says that his client is innocent. “Mr. Masterson is innocent, and we’re confident that he will be exonerated when all the evidence finally comes to light, and witnesses have the opportunity to testify,” Masterson’s attorney Tom Mesereau said in a statement to the publication.
Mesereau continued, “Obviously, Mr. Masterson and his wife are in complete shock considering that these nearly 20-year old allegations are suddenly resulting in charges being filed, but they and their family are comforted knowing that ultimately the truth will come out. The people who know Mr. Masterson know his character and know the allegations to be false.”
Masterson is being accused of raping a 23-year old woman in 2001, a 28-year-old woman in 2003, and a 23-year-old woman between October and December of the same year at his Hollywood Hills home, according to the press release.
If convicted, Danny Masterson faces 45 years to life in prison.
