Christie’s is gearing up for a record breaking sale this Spring when the largest white diamond to ever be auctioned, known as “The Rock,” goes up for bid.
“The Rock” is whopping 228.31-carat stone, valued at an estimate of $20 million to $30 million, which has only passed through three previous owners.
Kadakia says Christie’s was involved in the original sale of the stone 20 years ago and jumped in again with the prestigious auction house learned it was going up for sale again.
“The current owner decided that the market is quite healthy, which is true,” Kadakia said in reference to the particularly active diamond market.
“I’ve been at Christie’s for 25 years and Christie’s has been around for 256 years and in all of this time, this is the largest white diamond that’s ever come up for sale at auction,” Rahul Kadakia told Robb Report. “That’s quite something. It’s really a unicorn.”
