Everyone is taking gun safety to another level after the most recent mass school shooting in Parkland, Florida, including a company selling bulletproof book bags.
Massachusetts based company, Bullet Blocker, has seen a 30% spike in sales of their book bags since the unfortunate incident in Florida. The company was started by a concerned citizen for the cause. Joe Curran is a former U.S. Army Ranger who became passionate about the cause after seeing the Columbine shooting in 1999.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
He didn’t have the resources to help the cause then, but 8 years later after the Virginia Tech shooting, he was led to give his all to a principle that could change lives forever.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“I started asking local schools for their security plans in the event of armed intruders and there weren’t any concrete plans, so I wanted to promote the idea of kids protecting themselves,” Curran tells Yahoo Lifestyle about the passion project.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Bullet Blocker sells 11 different styles of backpacks ranging from $210 to $490. Though book bags are usually worn on the backside, what about protection for the front?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The idea of the book bag is to allow it to be used as a shield in the case of an attack. Whether from the front or the back, your child or loved one will be sheltered.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
They are like your standard school bag but inside they are laced with a knife-and-bulletproof material called Kevlar that’s approved by the National Institute of Justice, an organization that sets body armor standards for law enforcement. The science behind the book bag shield is that the fabric “traps and slows down” bullets shot from a .357 Magnum, a .44 Magnum, a 9mm handgun, and a .45 caliber weapon.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Of course with the newest trend, there has to be a luxury option to soon follow, and Bullet Blocker has the answers for that too.
Curran recently innovated a host of Gucci products including a duffle bag for $4,250, a leather diaper bag for $3,100, and a zip-up jacket for $3,200.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That’s just the beginning! He has also pimped out a teal Hermes purse for $5,225, an Armani suit for $5,895, and a Saint Laurent moto jacket for $6,450.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Customers are literally carousing around with walking bulletproof shields. It’s so unfortunate that it’s come to this, but you can’t say that a $6,500 bulletproof Armani suit isn’t baller.
