The name Aston Martin has been synonymous with luxury sports cars and the iconic James Bond films for decades. In a surprising twist, the automaker just announced the release of their first SUV, the Aston Martin DBX, with the hopes of appealing to the female audience. Relying on an advisory board of women who own Aston Martins, they were able to provide input on everything from the design, size, and overall functionality of the vehicle.
In the U.S., prices will start around $190,000, which is a significantly lesser price point than other models, which can exceed $300,000. The DBX’s 4.0-liter V8 engine designed by Mercedes AMG produces up to 542 horsepower. The SUV blends sports car dynamics with off-road abilities comparable to the Porsche Cayenne. According to CNN, Aston Martin’s chief engineer Matt Becker said, “We wanted to make a car that behaves as people expect an Aston Martin.”
The body style boasts a sloped frame and standard Aston Martin grill, and the cabin is customizable. It features standard leather and microfiber seating with optional wood trim for the center console. The five-seater DBX is now available for order. However, the first cars won’t be ready until May 2020.
