Donald Glover is one talented man. Whether he’s rapping, acting, writing, producing or doing stand up comedy, his creativity knows no bounds. While there’s no real secret formula to making successful films in Hollywood, if Glover is involved execs are realizing that it’s going to pay off in a major way at the box office.
Glover’s rise to fame started in 2006 after being hired by Tina Fey as a staff writer for the widely successful sitcom, “30 Rock”. After three years as a writer, he went on to become an actor in NBC’s “Community”. He also wrote and starred in the comedic film “Mystery Team” in 2009 which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival and grossed $90,000. In addition to film, his musical career under the name “Childish Gambino” took off with three album releases, Camp (2011), Because the Internet (2013) and Awaken My Love! (2016). He earned Grammy nominations in 2015 and 2018 and dropped critically acclaimed, “This is America” where he made history for winning the first hip-hop genre song of the year and record of the year at the Grammy’s in 2019.
As for his on screen success, Glover’s filmography includes, The Martian, Magic Mike XXL, Solo: A Star Wars Story, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Guava Island, the FX hit show, Atlanta and now Disney’s The Lion King. Collectively, making his total filmography $3 billion. There’s no telling what Donald Glover has up his sleeve next however, he’s got the Midas touch and whatever upcoming projects he’s associated with are bound to turn into a success.
