Mercedes Benz has just unveiled their new flagship EQS electric luxury sedan that is set to take on Tesla.
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS will usher in a new era for the German automaker. The vehicle will be a part of Benz’ large S-Class car family when it arrives in the U.S. in the fall.
While this won’t be the first electric vehicle to ever wear a three-pointed star, it’s the first new car to use Mercedes-Benz’s EV platform, which will serve as the foundation for most of the new electric vehicles coming from the automaker over the next few years.
“The EQS is designed to exceed the expectations of even our most discerning customers,” Mercedes-Benz and Daimler CEO Ola Kaellenius said in a press release. “That’s exactly what a Mercedes has to do to earn the letter ‘S’ in its name. Because we don’t award that letter lightly.”
The car’s interior resembles the cockpit of a futuristic spacecraft. It will debut a new Hyperscreen dashboard design that incorporates three digital screens under a single 56-inch-curved glass surface, a keyless start system that readies the drivetrain as soon as you enter the cabin and a fingerprint sensor that identifies the driver and configures its features to their pre-set preferences.
The luxury car will also include high-end options like power opening and closing doors, massaging seats and an augmented reality head-up display.
