The American Heart Association (AHA) has given us something fresh to think about when it comes to learning CPR.

They say that the rhythm of Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” and Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ’Em” matches the ideal tempo for Hands-Only CPR.

For CPR to work, it’s all about speed. You need to push hard and fast, about 100-120 compressions per minute.

“Not Like Us” has 101 beats per minute which falls right in the zone, and “Texas Hold ’Em” keeps you moving at the right pace of 110 beats per minute.

Why does this make a difference? A good tempo helps you stay on track to get those compressions right.

Black people are less likely to receive CPR in emergency situations, even though heart disease is one of the leading causes of death in the Black community.

According to the AHA, Black individuals are 30% less likely to get bystander CPR than white individuals. That means learning CPR and knowing the right tempo to follow, could be life-changing for someone in need.

So, why not use Kendrick and Beyoncé to help you get it right? It’s a quick and easy way to make sure you’re prepared for an emergency, and you might just save a life while you’re at it.
