Thursday morning, it was announced that after a 24-year tenure, the New England Patriots and Bill Belichick would be moving in opposite directions. This comes after an impressive six Super Bowl victories and thirteen seasons with 12 or more wins. The New England Patriots ended this season with a 4-13 record, which was a huge disappointment for their fans. They lost their final game 17-3 to the New York Jets. After two years of struggle, it became clear that the 71-year-old coach had achieved a lot, but the time for him to step down may have arrived.
Bill Belichick spoke to the media Thursday, giving his final remarks as he leaves a position that he has elevated.Â
“I’ll always be a Patriot and I look forward to coming back here, but at this time we’re gonna move on and I look forward and I’m excited for the future.”
Bill is getting older and some speculate that he does not want to go anywhere to start over. However, if we have learned one thing, Bill is a competitor who loves coaching the game of football.Â
He will be highly sought out, the laundry list of accomplishments that he has achieved is laughable. Check out some of the records he has set that could potentially never be broken.Â
- Thirteen AFC Championship Appearances(9 wins)
- Seventeen Divisional titles(Including 11 straight from 2009 through 2019
- Bill Belichick has won 266 regular season games
- The Patriots are the only team in NFL History to win at least one playoff game in eight consecutive seasons(2011-2018
This also happened from 2003 through 2007.
The New England Patriots owner, Robert Kraft, stated that the decision for Bill’s departure was mutual, and he wishes him the best. Nick Saban, Bill Belichick, and Pete Carrol have all departed from the teams they coached this season, and it feels like an era in football has come to an end.Â
