The Breakfast Club is taking time to address former co-host Angela Yee’s comments about her experience on the show.
Last week Yee told Tamron Hall that she was “the only woman who worked there” even “when it came to producers, camera people.” Stating that it “wasn’t an easy room for me to be in.”
On Monday, guest host Porsha Williams, DJ Envy, and Charlamagne The God weighed in on Yee’s feelings about her being “the lone woman” on the show.
Immediately, Envy denied the claims that no other women were involved as they replayed Yee’s response during her interview with Tamron Hall.
“CAP!” Envy shouted.
Porsha said, “the moment I got here today, my experience has not been there are no women; I’ve only seen women.” She said, “I don’t know what her experience was back then, but I have seen a lot of women.”
Envy explained, “well, I will say this; what she said wasn’t true.”
He continued, “I can’t tell her how she can feel about being on this show because on the show, she’s correct, it’s me, Charlamagne, and herself, so yea she was the only woman in the room when it came to producers there are so many different women that worked up here and that continue to work up here, so I didn’t like the way they that they put that The Breakfast Club doesn’t have women here or doesn’t respect women’s views because that’s not true.”
In his explanation, he went on to list the several women who are still working and producing for The Breakfast Club.
Ultimately, Envy claimed that he and Yee were able to have a conversation about the comments and clear things up.
“I did speak to Yee last night,” he continued. “Me and Yee got on the phone last night, and she understood what I was saying when she said that she meant in the room, meaning people that actually worked in the room, but that’s not what that clip said, and that’s now how it went out, and that’s what I was upset about.”
Monday, Yee further explained what she meant on her new show, Way Up With Angela Yee.
“The people I was talking about are the people whose job are to be in the room,” she said. “I was trying to make anyone feel a way.”
She named the many women who work on the show but explained she was specifically referring to people inside the studio.
She continued saying that she was “surprised” that the comment became such a whole ordeal online.
