BET has announced the cast for the biopic of New Edition- the legendary group that gave us timeless classics such as “Mr. Telephone Man”, “If It Isn’t Love”, “Candy Girl”, “Jealous Girl” and the 90’s anthem-“Hit Me off” in addition to other hits- has been selected.
At BET’s Upfront presentation, the cast of the 3-night miniseries was revealed. Sultry singer, Luke James will play Johnny Gill, Woody McClain is set to play Bobby Brown, Keith Powers is Mr. Devoe (Ronnie), Ralph Tresvant will be played by Algee Smith, Elijah Kelley will be Ricky Bell and Empire’s Bryshere “Yazz” Gray will play Michael Bivins .
With New Edition as executive producer and consultants for their biopic, we can expect an accurate account of their story. The group’s long time manager , Brooke Payne, will also serve as a consultant .
New Edition issued the following statement:
“It’s been a long time coming and that time is finally here! Now that we have signed the deal, New Edition’s journey will be captured in a three night miniseries to tell our life story through our very own eyes. We are happy to have New Edition Enterprises collaborate with BET Networks’ Debra Lee and Stephen Hill along with Jesse Collins Entertainment. From our beginning in the Orchard Park Projects in Boston to Hollywood and everything in between, just like The Temptations and The Jackson Five—we are ready to retrace our footsteps and show everyone how we got here. For the fans all over the world, this one’s for you.”
The series will begin shooting next month. “Lottery Ticket” writer, Abdul Williams will be handling the script while Chris Robinson (“ATL”) will direct.
I wonder will the biopic touch on the making of Bel Biv Devoe?
