The Divine Purpose In Being Irrelevant

Irrelevance. Alone in a public place full of people… Families, couples and groups of friends. No one knows who you are. Either they don’t notice you or they simply don’t care. Everyone wrapped up within and only concerned with, their own lives often not even noticing the beauty of nature that surrounds them… much less you, your presence, your art, your work, your purpose to this great big world. Sounds miserable right? Maybe. But it doesn’t have to be. Whether it’s in public, your place of business, school, or social media, feeling alone on this planet you call home can be quite saddening, frustrating and of course, lonely. The subject of irrelevance is taboo. Shunned and ignored… even though many if not most people are considered by society as such.

But like many other truths of life, once embraced.. Irrelevance can be transforming, life altering and liberating.

Irrelevance is something people from all walks of life deal with. But this post is specifically for my dreamers. Those with goals who yearn to be seen, felt, heard… noticed. Your talent, your unique beauty, your words and your soul, they are your gifts to the world, your purpose for being on this earth… and for that reason and more, you deserve to be noticed by the masses. So why aren’t you noticed? You write an amazing blog, song, or story, you sing or dance like you came straight from heaven, you have an idea that will shift the world in ways never before seen, you offer a much needed product or service that 75% of the world needs… So why do people not see the ultimate blessing in what u have to offer? It almost seems like a complete contradiction to what your soul is telling you is meant to be.

What you may not realize though, is that irrelevance is just as divine and purposeful as relevance. There are certain seasons for all journeys, which makes that down time much more significant than simply “waiting for your time”. Nope. There are many things to be done while you are waiting patiently, and ironically the impact of those steps taken during your time of ‘irrelevance’, are the MOST relevant to your destiny.

What is the curse of a young celebrity that has grown up in the public eye? You guessed it. lack of privacy and room for growth. That young man/woman is forced to grow up with millions of people watching. Making mistakes, finding themselves.. all while being criticised and judge for a self they have yet to know. Scary. They do not have much room for trial and error, simply because in the public eye, all error is counted against your legacy. The pressure to get it right the first time is unbelievable, not to mention unrealistic.

That is where your current irrelevance becomes a blessing in disguise, because you DO have that privacy. You can afford to take risks; and experiment; and explore… with minimal damage to your ultimate legacy. You have a certain freedom that many public figures WISH they had. You have room to grow, you have room to figure it all out and you have room to carefully build a brand that is reflective of your true self… once you find who that true self of yours is. The time to be courageous & the time for soul searching, the time to make bad plays and privacy to fumble the ball repeatedly without a stadium full of people watching your every move. You have the privacy to find yourself first, BEFORE presenting yourself to the world. That is massive.

So use this time wisely. Make it useful, make it personal, make it YOURS. Experiment, explore and exist freely. But most of all, EMBRACE this current chapter of your life, and make it useful for your ultimate testimony. Although embracing your current chapter has many blessings in and of itself, you know what the biggest blessing of it is? The gratitude that shows up with your new-found perspective, which thereby opens up the floodgates for other opportunities and blessings, including the supporters you’ve been looking for all along. You know how whenever you’re looking for the remote control you can NEVER find it, yet when you stop looking for it, it pops up right in front of you? Yep, believe it or not, life-chasing happens to be very similar.
