This morning I watched someone, a male, go on a complete social media rant regarding new age feminism. During his rant he said, “The feminist movement is where scarred, damaged women call home. Not knowing how to be women they attempt to rival men.” While, I don’t exactly agree with that, I didn’t exactly NOT agree with it either. Let me explain my problem with these new age feminists.
Some of these new age feminists would rather complain about the playing field not being level than actually go out there and fight the good fight. Me, I’m a fighter, not a complainer. I don’t have time to debate misogyny in rap music and talk about how twerking is terrible and strippers are the devil. I come from the South where twerking was just how we danced and thought nothing of it. I have friends who strip and are the sweetest people. I love rap music and I don’t care if you say the word “B****” just don’t call me one unless you want a problem. I don’t have time to complain because I actually am out here trying to fight my way to the top. I’m actually out here trying to make these naysaying young men my b****. Some of the crying, whining and complaining from these new age women calling themselves feminists does nothing but make other women look weak. If anything, you’re only holding yourself back.
I feel like a lot of these feminists are emotional. Have you seen the movie “A League of Their Own”? Well, I too believe there is no crying in baseball. I’m the type that would much rather crusade, make waves, come in and f*** sh** up than fight to be equal. Why? Because I don’t want to be equal. I want to be better. Not just better than men, better than everyone.
I remember when Rick Ross and his Molly rap line was all the rage on Twitter. Social Media feminists were ready to hang him at the stake for what THEY perceived was a rap line encouraging date rape. Me, having heard the song a million times before Twitter got a hold of it, didn’t see the lyric as anything other than a dumb choice of words by a man attempting to use “Molly” and “You Don’t Even Know” in the same sentence. Maybe I feel I’m a bit more logical than some feminists or maybe I feel like they’re not exactly like the crusaders that started the movement decades before them. All I hear is nagging, attacking rap music and telling grown women what they should be doing with their body and how they’re wrong for doing something that isn’t harmful to ANYBODY.
Maybe I’m not a feminist. I believe that it is a new day in age and women can be just as great if not greater than men if she learns how to play the cards she has in her hands, not debate for the cards a man has in his. I believe that in a relationship a man is supposed to be a provider and I believe in a relationship a woman can use her sexuality to get whatever she wants out of her man. I believe that women can be right on top without having to scream it from the mountain tops, see: Michelle Obama. I believe that it’s okay for a great woman to walk alongside a great man. She doesn’t have to MAKE that great man and he doesn’t have to MAKE her. I have feminist tendencies but my approach is way different. I feel that some of these “new age feminists” have to change their approach with the times. Quit the holier than thou act and realize that we are creatures of adaptation. We are just playing the game. If a stripper wants to walk away with some dumb dude’s life savings, I don’t see how that’s your problem. Unless it’s MY man’s money, I sure don’t see the problem.
Fight the good fight, ladies.
