The general public won’t be able to get their hands on any Winter Olympics tickets because of the COVID-19 surge.
The Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee will be responsible for distributing entry tickets for the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in Beijing.
“In terms of the grim and complex situation of epidemic prevention and control [and] in order to protect the health and safety of Olympic personnel and spectators, we have decided to change the original plan of public ticket sales,” the committee said on Monday, CNN reports.
Those who are selected to attend the Games are required to “strictly comply with Covid-19 prevention and control requirements before, during and after watching the Games.” The committee went on to say that the attendees will all be from China’s mainland who have the required “Covid-19 countermeasures.”
This past Saturday, the Omicron variant took root in China. The country currently has over 100,000 Coronavirus cases. The Beijing Winter Olympics will start on February 4.
