On June 10, Robert L. Fuller, a 24-year-old black man, was found hanging from a tree in Palmdale, California. After a preliminary investigation, local authorities called it death by suicide.
But now, one week later, new reports from California outlets report that Robert Fuller’s half brother, Terron Boone, has been shot and killed by Los Angeles County Sheriffs.
The shooting occurred late Wednesday afternoon in the Rosamond community, about 20 miles north of Palmdale.
L.A. County Lieutenant Sheriff, Robert Westphal, said the fatal shooting happened during a kidnapping and assault investigation that is being handled by the department’s major crime unit.
Westphal said detectives followed a car that Boone was riding in back to an apartment complex in Rosamond.
The deputies attempted a traffic stop, but Boone exited the car’s passenger side and began to open fire. According to Westphal, Deputies returned fire, shooting Boone in the chest, killing him.
The unidentified woman driving the vehicle was shot once in the chest and taken to a local hospital, where she was treated and released Wednesday night.
Westphal said a 7-year-old girl was in the back seat of the vehicle but did not suffer any injuries. The child’s relationship with the other two people in the car remains unclear.
Neither the officers nor the officers’ vehicles were equipped with recording equipment, and investigators are gathering footage from nearby Ring devices and other surveillance devices.
According to the L.A. Times, a potential witness, Seria Anderson, said she stood on the balcony of her apartment building adjacent to the parking lot where Terron was shot. Anderson claimed to have heard four to five gunshots, then saw a man laying slump over in the passenger seat of a blue color SUV truck.
Anderson also told L.A. Times that law enforcement officers, in plain clothes but wearing bulletproof vests, were at the scene, along with about five unmarked police cars.
Jason Hicks, the family spokesman’s for Robert Fuller said in a statement to the press,
“This afternoon, I had to notify the sisters of Robert Fuller that their half-brother Terron Jammal Boone was killed by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies in Kern County. At this time, until we receive all of the information, the family and their legal team don’t have any further comment on this incident. The family respectfully asks that their privacy be respected.”
