The NFL’s only undefeated team just got a big boost at wide receiver. The Kansas City Chiefs traded a fifth-round pick for five-time Pro Bowl wideout DeAndre Hopkins. The South Carolina-born standout now has a unique opportunity for his best shot at a Super Bowl ring, playing alongside the best quarterback in the league.
October 20th against Buffalo may have been the straw that broke the camel’s back for Hopkins, as he finished with just one reception for -2 yards. Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis has struggled this season, and with the Titans sitting at 1-5 after a 24-point loss to the Bills, Hopkins, at age 32, is in win-now mode.
Heading into Week 7, Hopkins has 15 receptions for 173 yards and a touchdown on the season. He’s hoping to land in Kansas City today so he can suit up on Sunday. The Chiefs’ wide receiver corps has been riddled with injuries—JuJu Smith-Schuster, Hollywood Brown, and a season-ending injury to Rashee Rice have left fans questioning whether there’s enough firepower in the offense.
Star running back Isiah Pacheco is also on IR with a lower leg injury. As the team tries to cement its legacy with a potential three-peat, Hopkins’ impact will be felt immediately. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes was happy to wake up to the news, as the Chiefs aim to go 7-0 on Sunday.
