The new Apple TV will focus strongly on gaming this time around, with new controllers, processors, and increased storage.
While the details are scarce, Apple is said to be working on a prototype that features A12 and A14 processor variants, according to Mashable. This component will make gaming performance better on the device. The publication also revealed that Apple might also be looking to implement console-quality games to its Apple Arcade service.
Other features included are an updated remote with a “Find Me” feature. This will help users to locate the remote easier if misplaced. There are also talks of a new gaming controller to be released with it. The new release will double the amount of storage in comparison to the current models. While there is no definitive date, the upgrade will arrive sometime next year.
Apple hopes that the new upgrades will drive sales to the device, which has not been as profitable as previously thought. This is in part due to the high price of Apple TV compared to its competitors. The latest 4K Apple TV will run you $180 instead of Amazon’s Fire TV Stick, which retails at $50, or Google’s $50 Chromecast, which is also $50.
