After going through four kickers this season alone, the Patriots have now signed kicker Josh Gable to its practice squad. Gable is known for uploading viral trick-shot videos to social media.
Prior to returning to the U.S. in 2016, Gable played professional soccer in Italy and Belgium, according to Sports Illustrated. Upon returning to the States, Gable became a kicker for the Indoor Football League with the Nebraska Danger, Iowa Barnstormers, and Tucson Sugar Skulls.
Gable has had an exceptional 2019 season with the Sugar Skulls as he’s successfully converted 6-of-16 field goals and 50-of-57 points.
Back in 2017, The Patriots gave Gable a chance and invited him to a 2017 rookie minicamp. Fast forward to October 2019, Gabe tried out again after Stephen Gostkowski was placed on injured reserve. However, New England signed veteran Mike Nugent. After that, the team replaced Nugent with Nick Folk; however, Folk needed an appendectomy in November and thus was replaced with Kai Forbath. Forbath kicked for a total of one game due to Folk returning last weekend during a game against the Chiefs.
During the previous offseason, Gable worked out with a couple of teams, including the Bears and Colts. While Gable likely won’t receive any playing time in 2019, this opportunity gives the Patriots time to evaluate him for 2020.
