Officer Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer responsible for the death of George Floyd, has been released from prison after posting a $1 million bond.
On May 25, bystanders captured footage of officer Chauvin kneeling on Floyd’s neck for over eight minutes. Floyd died as a result of the violent restraint, and his death set off many protests and riots all around the world.
Chauvin was charged with second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter and has been in prison since May 31. According to reports, he posted a non-cash bond on Wednesday and is currently awaiting his March 9 trial date.
