While the Olympic Games in #Rio have been filled with major storylines since it’s start just days ago, Tuesday participants and viewers were captivated by something other than the gold.
The Olympic diving pool drew unprecedented attention when it’s water eerily turned colors overnight, and even more so throughout the day. Over the past 24 hours, the pool’s water changed from a clear blue to an almost emerald green, and the gag is… no one knows why. Even more shocking, the adjacent pool used for swimming is still blue.
Divers took to social media to question the state of the water and its potential hazards. While no cause has been confirmed, speculation stemming from known hazards in Brazil’s water supply has caused worry for many.
According to official organizers, tests have shown that there is no potential harm to athletes, though they still have no idea what caused the drastic change in color. An investigation is currently ongoing.
