With April comes St. Patrick’s Day, ideal spring weather, and usually Easter, though Resurrection Sunday fell on March 31st this year. The month also marks a special day that allows smokers to celebrate the herb that gets them through life.Â
Though not an official holiday, 4/20 has been acknowledged since the 1970s. It’s not exactly clear who started the tradition, but as legend has it, several teenagers would designate 4:20 p.m. as their smoking time, thus using the code “4/20” to indicate it was time to get high. Whether or not this is true likely won’t ever be confirmed. Still, the tradition of 4/20 has lived on for decades, even sparking the creation of several weed celebrations, including the Sweetwater 4/20 Fest, which takes place in Atlanta on April 20th and April 21st.Â
