Platinum selling artist, The Weeknd, has never been shy about supporting efforts he believes in.
Now just under one week after donating $50,000 to the University of Toronto’s Ethiopic Studies program, the singer is making an even bigger charitable mark in another area.
According to sources close to the singer, The Weeknd recently donated $250,000 to the Black Lives Matter Network.
The Weeknd took to Twitter nearly one month ago, after the police-involved deaths of #PhilandoCastile and #AltonSterling, to give his take on the situation, tweeting “Enough is enough. It’s time to stand up for this. we can either sit and watch, or do something about it. the time is now. #blacklivesmatter.”
The Canadian native joins the ranks of other mega-stars who have lent their hands and voices in efforts to support the #BlackLivesMatter movement in recent history. Those including #Beyonce and #JayZ, #CarmeloAnthony, #LebronJames, and countless others.
The Weeknd has not been vocal about the donation and has not yet made a statement regarding his good deed.
