In Scotland, this weekend, Double Diamond, a Texel sheep, was recently purchased at a whopping 350,000 guineas, which is about $490,000 in American money.
“Everyone wanted a piece of it,” Jeff Aiken, one of the winning bidders, said. “Every once in a while, something special comes along, and yesterday an extra special Texel turned up.”
The bidding started at 10000 guineas (USD 13,000), and the war only ended when an agreement was reached for the sheep to be shared amongst three farms.
“Don’t get me wrong, it is an obscene amount of money to pay for a sheep,” Aiken said. “It definitely should not be a reflection on the farming community.”
