Since Katt Williams opened Pandora’s Box earlier this year, 2024 has welcomed some of the most intense disagreements. While diss tracks have always been a part of the Hip-Hop culture, the action is resurfacing with a strong vengeance, making headlines and stirring up conversation among social media users. From subtle jabs to direct callouts, these artists continue to let their lyrics speak for themselves. Here’s a brief list of some of the most unforgettable diss tracks from this year thus far.
Drake vs. Everybody (Kendrick Lamar, Rick Ross, Future & Metro Boomin)
2024 was an interesting year for Drake as he has found himself involved in multiple beefs from Kendrick Lamar to his former friend, Future. However, the floodgates opened up with Kendrick Lamar setting the tone after appearing on Future & Metro Boomin’s “Like That” track and revealing that there’s no “Big 3,” referring to Drake and J. Cole. Shortly after, Drake went into the booth to respond to K.Dot’s claim and released “Push Ups,” which took shots at Kendrick, Rick Ross, Metro Boomin, The Weeknd, and Future.
Of course, it didn’t take long for the responses to pour in. Hours after “Push Ups” was released, Ricky Rozay didn’t take the diss too well and called Drake “white boy” on his “Champagne Moments” and claimed that he had surgery on his nose. But, it seems as though Drake wanted more smoke with K.Dot than anyone else with the release of his “Taylor Made Freestyle.” In the track, Drake used artificial intelligence to mimic the voices of some famed California rappers to get under Kendrick’s skin. At that point, a full-on Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef was ignited as both rappers released a couple of diss tracks aimed at the other. Nonetheless, their issue seemed to simmer down after Kendrick released what can be known as the best diss track of the year, “Not Like Us.”
Chris Brown vs. Quavo
This feud is an interesting topic that seems to stem from Breezy’s past relationship with model Karrueche Tran. If you’re unaware, Chris and Karrueche were together for a few years before she finally called it a quits shortly after it was revealed that he fathered a child with another woman. As a newly single woman, Karrueche was spotted out with Quavo. Even though, both parties denied being romantically linked, their “friendship” didn’t sit too well with Chris. In response, Chris took shots at Quavo on his “Freak” track, stating that “f*cking my old b*tches ain’t gone make us equal.”
Quavo caught wind of the diss and released “Tender,” which he made funs of Chris’s breakup with Karrueche and even mentioned his past domestic violence issues. But, in typically Breezy fashion, the multi-talented singer tapped into his rapping bag and fired headshots at Quavo. In his “Weakest Link” song, Chris claimed that everyone wished Quavo died instead of his former Migos bandmate, Takeoff. He also seemingly revealed that he slept with Quavo’s ex-girlfriend, Saweetie.
DaBaby vs. Brandon Bills
Their rift between DaBaby and Brandon Bills kicked off after a dispute between the rapper and his baby mama, DaniLeigh. Sometime ago, the world saw DaBaby and Dani having a disagreement while on Instagram Live. At the time, DaBaby was allegedly trying to put the singer out of his house but according to the video, she refused. As a result, DaBaby had Dani arrested on domestic violence charges. Shortly after, Dani’s brother, Brandon Bills, jumped into the issue to stick up for his sister and said that he was going to “knock DaBaby out.”
As time went on, DaBaby and Brandon finally met up and had a physical altercation at a bowling alley. The fight led to Brandon filing a $4 million lawsuit against the rapper, but instead of resulting in violence again, DaBaby went to the studio to record “Lawsuit On A Wednesday.” Fans believed the track was aimed at Brandon, especially with lyrics like “He was gangsta before, now you suin’ me, huh? / That tough sh*t, he don’t wanna do it no more / Out the spot, ain’t want nothin’ to do wit’ the wh*re.”
Megan Thee Stallion vs. Nicki Minaj
One of the most interesting beefs that became public this year was Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj. As past collaborators, their relationship seemed to be solid until recently. Months after dealing with her ongoing legal issue with Tory Lanez, the Houston Hottie released “HISS” and took shots at everyone who had negative commentary about her. Despite Megan not directly mentioning names, many people believed that she dissed Nicki Minaj with her “these h*es don’t be mad at me, these h*es be mad at Megan’s law,” which is a federal law that requires authorities to make information about registered sex offenders public. The jab landed on Nicki’s radar since her husband, Kenneth Petty, was previously accused of raping a girl. As a response, Nicki went on a days-long rant and released “Big Foot” to make fun of Megan getting shot in the foot by Tory Lanez and the passing of her mother.
Desiigner vs. 50 Cent
It all started after 50 Cent visited the ‘Million Dollaz Worth Of Game’ podcast. During his visit, 50 shared a story on why he chose not to sign rapper Desiigner to his record label, G-Unit. According to 50, Desiigner didn’t have enough music produced at the time. Once the comment landed on Desiigner’s radar, the “Panda” rapper decided on releasing his frustrations in a freestyle. In an Instagram post, Desiigner shared a snippet of a song where he took shots at 50, rapping, “N*ggas talkin’ that 50 Cent, I be talking fifty mill’ / N*ggas talkin’ that Timmy Turner, glad the n*gga got killed / I got signed to Kanye, lil n*gga, you was never worth a deal.”
In response, 50 addressed the rapper on the same platform but instead of releasing a freestyle, the “Power” founder posted a 2017 clip of Desiigner rapping on Hot 97’s Funkmaster Flexx radio show. In his typical trolling fashion, 50 wrote in the caption, “Sometimes you don’t have to say anything at all. Ok, moving right along!”
