In today’s sports world, the wives and girlfriends of famous NBA and NFL players, often referred to as “WAGs,” are celebrities beyond their relationships, crafting their own lanes and fanbases.
Many of these women are entrepreneurs, performers, or media personalities who have built their own brands and companies before, during, and after their relationships with their high-profile athlete partners. Even on shows such as “Basketball Wives” and “WAGS,” many of these women are highlighted for their own accomplishments.
However, four of them have thrived without putting their relationships on full display.
Savannah James, the wife of NBA icon LeBron James, is a philanthropist and businesswoman. She recently launched her own podcast, “Everybody’s Crazy,” alongside friend April McDaniel, where they dive into relationship and life matters. Additionally, she is the backbone of her thriving family, which also includes Los Angeles Lakers Rookie Bronny James, NBA prospect Bryce James, and daughter Zhuri.
Ayesha Curry may be married to NBA superstar Stephen Curry, but she has launched a successful cooking empire on her own. She has released several cookbooks, including “The Full Plate” and “The Seasoned Life.” Additionally, she hosted “Ayesha’s Home Kitchen,” which ran for two seasons. She is also part owner of a restaurant chain called International Smoke.
On the NFL side, Ciara, the wife of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson, was a Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, and dancer before she became a wife. With chart-toppers such as “Goodies,” “One, Two Step,” “Body,” and “Promise,” Ciara’s illustrious career brought her international success before she said “I do” in July 2016. Despite having four children and her husband’s ever-evolving career, Ciara continues to tour, recently hitting the road with Missy Elliott. She also recently launched a collection with fashion retailer Bebe.
Gisele Bündchen, formerly married to NFL legend Tom Brady, is a world-famous supermodel who has graced the cover of Vogue on several occasions. She has also walked the runway for brands such as Giorgio Armani, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Chanel. Though she stepped away from full-time modeling, she remains active with business ventures, including her cookbook, “Nourish.”
