A plumber revealed that he discovered thousands of dollars concealed in a wall at Lakewood Church while performing a job last month.
On Monday morning’s 100.3 Bull radio show, a caller recounted finding multiple envelopes in the wall while moving a loose toilet.
“We went to go remove the toilet, and I moved some insulation away, and about 500 envelopes fell out of the wall, and I was like, ‘Oh wow!'” the caller recounted. Upon examining the envelopes, the plumber discovered cash and checks. He immediately contacted the maintenance supervisor and turned it in.
On Friday, Houston police confirmed that some of the recovered checks from the wall were linked to a March 9th, 2014, theft at the church. During that alleged burglary, the church reported $600,000 was stolen. This raises questions about whether or not a theft ever actually occurred. Authorities are still actively investigating the seven-year-old case.
