Three individuals have been charged in connection with the death of British singer and former One Direction member Liam Payne, who tragically passed away after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires on October 16, Argentina’s public prosecutor announced Thursday. The charges include abandonment of a person leading to death and supplying narcotics.
Authorities have not named the suspects.
According to the prosecutor’s statement, one of the accused was a person who regularly accompanied Payne while he was in Buenos Aires. This individual is charged with abandoning a person following death. In addition, a hotel employee and another individual face charges for allegedly supplying Payne with cocaine on multiple occasions during his stay. The charges specifically cite two instances of narcotic supply each.
The toxicology report revealed that Payne, 31, had alcohol, cocaine, and a prescription antidepressant in his system within the 72 hours leading up to his death. The investigation, led by prosecutor Andres Madrea, uncovered what officials described as “illicit conduct” that may have contributed to the singer’s passing.
