Three Florida cyberbullies have been suspended from their hockey league after being accused of bullying a teammate, who committed suicide.
McKenna Brown, 16, took her own life in August after she began talking to one of her friends’ former boyfriends, the New York Post reported.
The ex-girlfriend of the boy and two other girls taunted and harrassed Brown, her mother, Cheryl Brown, told Dr. Phil.
The unidentified girls have since been suspended from their Florida hockey league due to the allegations.
Brown was a star athlete who dreamed of playing women’s hockey at the University of South Florida and was one day away from starting her senior year at East Lake High in Tarpon Springs when she killed herself on Aug. 7.
“She left a letter that was very thoughtful and didn’t call any of these people out,” her mother told Dr. Phil. “…I knew it had something to do with these girls.”
She and her husband were eventually able to piece it together.
The accused bullies reportedly leaked personal information about the teen, including that she had been raped at 14, to “humiliate and embarrass her,” her mother added.
A text message obtained by Fox 13 showed that one of the girls messaged McKenna: ‘You have done all of us so wrong’ and ‘I hope I never see you again.’
She also received lengthy messages and was bombarded by other girls who “wanted to leave her without a single friend.”
The girls suggested on social media that others “cancel” her as well.
The worst of the bullies attended McKenna’s funeral, claims the victim’s mother, who believes the aggressor is “unremorseful.”
