On December 17th, three California men were arrested and charged with a drive-by shooting that took place after they were kicked out of a club for failing to wear masks.
The shooting took place on Halloween in Anaheim, California, at the Sahara Theatre strip club. In the early morning hours of October 31st, authorities say that 34-year-old Edgar Nava-Ayala, 20-year-old Juan Jose Acosta-Soto, and 22-year-old Daniel Juvenal Ocampo were physically removed from the club for refusing to wear face coverings inside of the establishment. After being removed, the three men left but then returned a short while later with an AK-47. The Orange County District Attorney’s Office claims that Naya-Ayala was the one who began shooting and fired nearly 15 rounds into the club. Nearly 30 people were inside at the time. Four people were shot, three of which were hit in their upper body. Prosecutors said that one victim required surgery, and another received a broken left scapula.
The men, who have all pleaded not guilty, are facing a slew of charges and lengthy prison sentences if convicted.
Nava-Ayala is facing 82 years to life in prison after being charged with three felony counts of attempted murder with premeditation and deliberation, three felony counts of assault with an assault weapon, and one felony count of shooting into an occupied building, according to KTLA. He is also being charged with seven felony enhancements of personal use of an assault weapon and three felony enhancements causing great bodily injury.
Ocampo faces 21 years to life for three felony counts of attempted murder with premeditation and deliberation, three felony counts of assault with an assault weapon, and one felony count of shooting into an occupied building. Also, he has been charged with seven felony enhancements of supplying a firearm for the commission of a felony.
Acosta-Soto is looking at 17 years in prison if convicted on all charges, including three felony counts of assault with an assault weapon and one felony count of shooting into an occupied building.
Each man is being held on a $5 million bond at the Orange County Jail.
