Three People Dead, 12 Injured After Falling Nearly 200 Feet From Volcano In Ecuador

Three people are dead, and 12 are injured after falling more than 100 feet from a volcano in Ecuador.

This past Saturday, three mountain climbers passed away after they fell nearly 200 feet from Ecuador’s Carihuairazo volcano, CBS News reports. “Due to weather conditions and nightfall, it was not possible to evacuate the bodies,” read a statement from ECU911 rescue services.

Other climbers were injured with contusions and fractures. The three climbers that died were all from Ecuador. They fell 60 meters, or 196 feet. The men were between the ages of 45 and 50, according to ECU911.

The ‘climbers’ goal was to summit the central Andean volcano. A rescue effort for the three men’s bodies is currently being organized.
