Three people were killed, and another person was seriously injured during a shooting Saturday in an Oneida Nation casino outside Green Bay, Wisconsin.
According to the Green Bay Press-Gazette, officers responded to a call for shots fired around 7:30 p.m. inside the Duck Creek Restaurant, located inside the Radisson Hotel & Conference Center attached to the casino. When officers arrived, they shot and killed the gunman outside the restaurant.
Lt. Kevin Pawlak said that the gunman went to the restaurant to confront a specific employee during a news conference. The targeted employee was not there, and the unidentified gunman shot friends or acquaintances of the intended victim. Two were killed, and one was taken to a hospital in Milwaukee for emergency surgery.
Authorities believe that the suspect had ties to the Oneida Casino by employment status.
The shooting is being investigated by the Brown County Sheriff’s Officer and the Oneida Police Department. The Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the death of the gunman. The casino is asking people to avoid the area while the investigation is ongoing.
Gov. Tony Evers released a statement acknowledging the shooting and sent his thoughts and prayers to the affected communities.
“Kathy and I were devastated to hear about the shooting at the Oneida Casino complex tonight. Our hearts, thoughts, and support go out to the Oneida Nation, the Ashwaubenon and Green Bay communities, and all those affected by this tragedy,” said Evers. “While we are waiting for more information, we hope and pray those who were injured will recover and are grateful for the first responders who quickly responded to the situation.”
The main casino and another facility will remain closed until further notice. Two other casinos and a travel center will reopen Sunday, along with all retail establishments.
While we are waiting for more information, we hope and pray those who were injured will recover and are grateful for the first responders who quickly responded to the situation.
