Three people, including a family friend, have been accused of kidnapping the 3-month-old baby boy who was found safe earlier this week.
On Wednesday, police identified three suspects in connection to the kidnapping of 3-month-old Brandon Cuellar, who was taken from his home on Monday while under the care of his grandmother.
The suspects, all San Jose, California residents, are Jose Roman Portillo, 28; Baldomeo Sandoval, 37 and Yesenia Guadalupe Ramirez, 43. Ramirez is allegedly a family friend of Brandon’s family.
As Baller Alert previously reported, baby Brandon was stolen from his family’s home on Elm Street a little after 1 p.m. Brandon’s grandmother was watching him while his mother was at work. While in her care, the grandmother took Brandon with her on a trip to the grocery store. When she returned home, she placed Brandon down inside the apartment to get the remaining groceries. About two minutes later, after leaving Brandon’s sight, a stranger came and took the child.
At the time, the family said they didn’t recognize the kidnapper. ABC News reports that San Jose Police Sgt. Christian Camarillo believes the incident was orchestrated. “It’s not some random act,” said Camarillo.
Police believe Ramirez took Brandon and his grandmother to run errands earlier on the day Brandon was stolen. And in the midst of helping them run errands, she stayed in contact with one of the two other suspects, police say. Police added that Ramirez’s “statement changed several times during the interview process,” ABC News reports.
The trio has been arrested and charged with kidnapping, conspiracy to commit kidnapping, child abduction and home invasion, ABC News reports. An investigation into the incident is still underway.
