Charges have been filed against four people in connection with the deaths of two African-American men, whose dismembered bodies were pulled from a local lake in Moore, Oklahoma.

According to Moore police, 21 year olds, Alize Ramon Smith and Jarron Keonte Moreland were reported missing on April 14 after a shooting in the parking lot of a local grocery store. Two weeks later, police confirmed two bodies found in a lake a few blocks away from the location of the shooting to be Smith and Moreland.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Officers arrested 16-year-old Brett Boettler, who is charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, unlawful removal of a dead body, desecration of a human corpse, and possessing a firearm after delinquent adjudication.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Boettler’s brother, Kevin Garcia-Boettler, 22, has been charged with accessory after the fact and unlawful removal of a dead body.

Boettler’s mother, Crystal Rachelle Boettler, 40, has also been charged with accessory after the fact.

Mother’s boyfriend, Johnny Shane Barker, 43, has been charged with accessory after the fact, unlawful removal of a body and desecration of a human corpse.

Detectives found the White Chrysler Town and Country van which was seen during the shooting, at the Boettler home. After looking inside, they found “cleaning products and a power washer around the vehicle,” “dried blood spatter on the ceiling of the van” and “a bucket of water with a chainsaw bar inside and soaking in the water along with several jigsaw blades”— the probable cause the needed to connect the Boettlers to the dismembered bodies.

Kevin admitted to disposing the bodies and Barker admitted that he helped with cleaning the van to prevent any evidence being detected.

After multiple confessions, the order of events that night was established. After fleeing the scene with the bodies, the brothers headed to their mother’s house where her boyfriend, Barker, helped them remove the bodies, cover them with tarps, and attach cinder blocks around them with chains before dumping them in a lake.

Although officials say it is not a hate crime, on Twitter, racial injustice journalist Shaun King called this incident a “modern day lynching.”
