A three-year-old died after falling from a window from her family home and couldn’t get back into her family home on a frigidly cold night.
Charlotte Handelman is said to have fallen from the second-story window of her family’s Rock Island home sometime between 11 pm Monday, and 6 am Tuesday.
The toddler was found outside the home, police say.
According to the (Moline) Dispatch/The Rock Island Argus, an autopsy shows the young girl did not die from the fall, but she was pronounced dead at the hospital from hypothermia.
Rock Island County Coroner Brian Gustafson said the three-year-old’s death an absolute tragedy.
“It’s being investigated as nothing more than a tragic accident. She was a beautiful little girl,” he added.
