Actress Tichina Arnold says every Black man in America needs to check out her upcoming movie “The Last Black Man in San Francisco.”
Arnold is the multi-talented woman who helped bring us some of our best laughs from projects like “Martin” and “Everybody Hates Chris.” Now, as she’s gearing up to come back to her hit CBS show “The Neighborhood,” the 49-year-old actress says her new role in Joe Talbot’s film “The Last Black Man in San Francisco” is one she wants everyone to pay attention to – especially Black men. “I think every Black man in America should see this film.”
Last week, Arnold spoke to Essence at Sundance Film Festival and discussed the importance of the film. “There are so many textures to this film that I think people are doing to be able to appreciate in years to come.” She continued, “It shows so many sides of the Black man that you don’t normally get to see,” she continued. “And aside from that, it talks about gentrification, it talks about homelessness, it hits on a lot of issues that we’re dealing with today.”
The story details the journey of Jimmie Fails, a Black man who is trying to reclaim the home his father built, which is now inhabited by a white family. After the owner dies, Fails attempts to restore the home, along with the memories he used to have as a child.
Arnold says her role in the film is one that she is passionate, but her ultimate goal in life is to just be an amazing actress. “It’s a blessing to be part of so many iconic pieces of work,” she said, reflecting on her career. “I don’t care about being a star. I want to leave a legacy of good work.”
