Netflix’s Tiger King has been making headlines for several months, and now there are new reports regarding its cast.
According to Courthouse News, Joe Exotic is now being required to give up his zoo properties to his enemy, Carole Baskin.
The outlet reports that as a part of a $1 million trademark judgment, Baskin’s ‘Big Cat Rescue,’ convinced a U.S. District Judge in Oklahoma, that back in 2011, Joe “Exotic” (whose real name is Joseph Allen Maldonado-Passage) illegally transferred his zoo properties, to his mother, Shirley M. Schreibvogel, as a way to keep the properties out of the way of creditors while he fought his legal battles.
In 2013, Exotic was ordered by a federal judge to pay ‘Big Cat Rescue’ approximately $1 million as the result of a 2-year-old trademark-infringement lawsuit at that time.
This lawsuit was also featured in the Netflix docuseries’ Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem And Madness’, which showed the similarity in logos and images between Joe “Exotic” and ‘Big Cat Rescue.’
In 2016, ‘Big Cat Rescue’ pursued legal action against Joe Exotic’s mother as a result of their fraudulent property transfer.
“Schreibvogel later admitted under oath that the zoo land was transferred to her by Joe Maldonado to remove it from the reach of creditors, including BCR, should BCR win its Florida lawsuit,” the complaint read. “Schreibvogel also admitted in 2015, via a confession of judgment she entered into to resolve a lawsuit filed against her by the Chapter 7 bankruptcy trustee overseeing Joe Maldonado’s personal bankruptcy estate, that the zoo land was fraudulently transferred to her by Joe Maldonado in 2011 to avoid his creditors.”
As a result of the judge’s ruling, ‘Big Cat Rescue’ will also receive ownership of several vehicles and cabins belonging to the property. The current head of operation at the zoo (as Joe Exotic continues to serve his 22-year prison sentence) has to leave the premises within 120 days as well as remove all animals on the property, the outlet reports.
