Tiger Woods has been inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame two years after initially being elected.Â
The 46-year-old golf icon was originally elected to the Hall of Fame in March 2020. He was scheduled to be inducted in 2021. However, the COVID-19 pandemic postponed the ceremony. On Wednesday, Woods officially became a Hall-of-Famer at the PGA Tour’s Florida headquarters. Woods’ was moved to tears by his daughter, Sam, who presented him with the award. During her speech, the 14-year-old touched her father when she stated, “Dad, I inducted you into the Dad Hall of Fame long time ago.” She also recounted his frightening February 2021 car crash that required him to undergo multiple surgeries and miss the PGA Tour. Sam praised her father for being a “fighter” before Woods himself took the stage, unable to hold back the tears.
In his acceptance speech, Woods revealed that as a junior, he was denied entry to multiple all-white country clubs on the path to pursuing his dreams. However, his parents and close circle of supporters helped him to become a record-winning golfer.
“I didn’t get here alone. I had unbelievable parents, mentors, friends, who allowed me and supported me in the toughest times, the darkest of times, and celebrated the highest of times,” he stated.
Woods has achieved 15 major championship victories throughout his decorated career and has racked up 82 career PGA Tour wins.
