Sex workers and OnlyFans are being kicked off of TikTok.
TikTok has rolled out a new policy banning nudity and sexual actives from the application, directly targeting sex workers and OnlyFans creators. Ally Hardest, a sex worker who posts NSFW content on her OnlyFans, was kicked off TikTok without notice. Hardesty highlighted that she, for the most part, keeps it PG on the platform. “I’m always really intentional about keeping lingerie or little outfits or anything I wear on OF separate from TikTok,” she tells me. “I just liked to do dances with my friends and stuff.”
But to her surprise, after hitting 40,000 followers on TikTok, her account was totally deleted. When she reached out, she said the company had no valid reason for pulling her account. “They didn’t give much explanation. They basically just said I couldn’t get my account back because I’d violated the terms,” she says. Hardesty added that she urged them to explain their logic for taking her account down, arguing that she never uploaded any sexual content.
“I had spent the last year building up that account and learning the dances and stuff,” she says. Getting deleted “was really discouraging.”
The social media platform is doing what sex worker Rebekka Blue referred to as “TikTok purge,” the platform’s process of wiping clean any sexual or nude content. The issue is the people they are purging claim they haven’t broken any of TikTok’s rules and guidelines. However, they acknowledge that they did link their OnlyFans and other websites to their bios. TikTok says the women’s actions fall into the category of “sexual exploitation, The Rolling Stone reports.
The guidelines state that users are not allowed to post, stream or share nude or sexually explicit content as well as “content that depicts, promotes, or glorifies sexual solicitation, including offering or asking for sexual partners, sexual chats or imagery, sexual services, premium sexual content, or sex-camming.”
A representative for TikTok said, “we do not allow content that commits, promotes, or glorifies sexual solicitation or allow accounts that attempt to redirect traffic,” which includes OnlyFans.
